Pill boxes appeared in 17th-century Europe, right when apothecaries were first formalizing medicine into small, portable doses. Silver cases kept powders, lozenges, or pills close at hand. They quickly slipped beyond function, becoming little luxuries at the crossroads of healthcare and style. By the 20th century, silversmiths pushed them further, turning a sober necessity into imaginative, sculptural designs.
This one is shaped like a wrapped candy: ribbed body, crumpled twist ends, solid sterling heft. A modernist novelty from the 1960s–80s, it flips the idea of bitter pills into something sweet, a playful reimagining of the everyday in silver.
