The Shuttle ring by Lapponia stands as one of the strongest examples of progressive Finnish design to come out of the 1970s. It was designed by Björn Weckström, Lapponia's most celebrated designer, whose lifelong fascination with space travel, natural forces, and abstract form shaped this piece into something architectural rather than decorative.
The silver looks almost carved rather than cast, true to Weckström's belief that jewellery could exist as wearable sculpture.
Lapponia itself was known internationally during this era for its avant-garde output, working exclusively with leading designers, and Weckström's own reputation grew further when his pieces appeared in the Star Wars films
This particular ring carries that history with it, though a previous owner had it resized larger, so the purity and maker's marks, while still legible, now sit split across the seam.
